First off, let me say there is no denying American Football is the more entertaining game. The concept is solid, strategy is more important, the game is way more unpredictable, and some moments are ingrained in my mind forever for the sheer awesomeness of them. That said, I just like Rugby better, and until now I couldn't put my finger as to why that was the case. Until it hit me: Rugby is just classy, and American Football is a trashy thing to see.
I have two posts that touch on american football, one i made when i was tired of all the stupid penalties (Flags) and had a burnout with the sport, and another where i was discussing the fact that militarized societies need mock-battle sports. The thing that is different now is that I became older, and I have a lot more patience and appreciation for the ins and outs of the game. I still find the barrage of random stupid statistics annoying (Mahomes has the most yards per game while tiptoeing out of any player since the invention of the cellphone!), but my attention span has increased to a point I can just about put up with most of the annoyances and focus on what the defense is doing and how cool some blocks are or whatever. My problem is simply that i can’t help but notice how “americanized” this sport is. “Not shit, it’s american” i hear you saying. Well does being american entail behaving like an ape on and off the field? (I still remember a certain quarterback who beat his wife in an elevator, or another who hit his son with a stick, or the dog-fighting guy, or the literal serial killer Hernandez something). Being an old soul i know that the american sport used to be baseball not even 60 years ago. As boring as i find baseball, i can see it’s merits, but i can still see why baseball lost to american football. America became a negrified nation around the 60s and 70s. Culture became centered around black people and their worship. You can thank Lyndon B. Johson for that, or maybe this fetishization of african-american culture (and misbehaviour) is simply the american hysteria of the moment, but something changed in the 60’s and 70’s where the “old” became “uncool man”, and in came the obsession with whatever the blacks were up to. Now this is the point where you scratch your head and ask me two questions
Weren’t most of the greatest Quarterbacks white?
You did praise American football in your “America and Prussian Spirit” article?
Very well, these contradictions warrant some explanation. Firstly, quarterback is a position that is 80% quick-thinking and IQ, so I'm obviously not talking of quarterbacks, even though some black quarterbacks were decent (while not beating their wives on an elevator off the field). When I speak of the negrification of the sport i’m speaking of other positions that amount to running predetermined routes, pushing others, and making other players eat grass. These guys are pure crass. They cannot keep discipline and keep screwing their teams over, most comically in the “unsportsmanlike conduct” infraction, which Americans on reddit are quick to dismiss as “iT’s ThE UnFuN LeAgUe BrAh”. But also on sporadically brawling for no reason, on “neutral zone infraction’ (offside) and as of today, of hitting Trevor Lawrence in the helmet so hard it cost the infringing defendant a season long ban. As some Confederate General would put it (his words not mine) “These god damn niggers”.
In Rugby none of that is an issue. Yes penalties exist, and sometimes they do make the game unfun to watch, but they mostly steem from a lack of ability to play the game, or natural confusions on what is a very chaotic sport in constant flow where errors just happen. Infractions in Rugby don’t come out of players being cocky or dumb or self-centered. It’s a true team sport where cohesion is key.
Funny that Rugby resembles an unruly brawl while American Football resembles a hyper organized tactical battle, but when it comes down to it the opposite ends up being true. Rugby ends up being way more tactical and involving way more intelligence and comradery, while American Football ends up being way more thuggish, unruly and negrified in nature.
Like i’m sorry but i can’t help but notice the difference in class between both sports, and a certain pattern regarding who plays them. Colourblindess requires being out of touch with reality (hence why kids and men children can’t be racist ever). Rugby has very posh-british origins, and it shows. Players have a certain regal code of conduct about them, the referee is king and his words sacred, and even the odd black player feels like he is behaving like a white person would. He doesn’t feel “at home” because he is not at home. Rugby is a white people’s game that just so happens to be played by other ethnicities (Polynessians make up most of the non-whites). American Football on the other hand feels like it’s a thuggish black people game being played by thuggish black people. I know AF’s origins were not african-american, but the game sure is absurdly popular with blacks and their worshipers, both in watching and in playing. Some would say it keeps the youth out of gangs, and maybe that is the reason it took national priority over baseball and racing just coincidentally after inner cities of america became hotspots of black gang violence. Maybe they want black kids out of the streets and utilizing their violent natures and innerent brutality in a sport. How well this policy paid off i can’t say.
There is lot’s more I could say, but I must keep this brief today. In conclusion, we are living in the Age of Kali, and civilized sports being replaced by brutality sports is an inherent part of the decline of Civilization. I must say I prefer contact sports to more “gentlemanly” sports, and I do enjoy a good Football match every now and then, but I can't shake the feeling that contact sports are a window into how cultures behave. To prove to you I didn't write this to dunk on non-whites, i’ll say Rugby replaced the respectful and ritualized warfare of the pacific islanders in a way that bettered those societies. It worked for Fiji, Tonga, The Maori and Samoans quite well, but maybe only because British and French colonizers were very clever in their use of the local cultures to control the masses (Pajeets play cricket for fuck’s sake). Meanwhile America is an experiment gone wrong, and American Football, whatever it’s white origins, ended up going wrong along with the American Colourblind Project of 64’. It is a distasteful sport not due to any inherent rules or lack of pace, but in being captured and monopolized by a 1960’s American dystopian ethos that glorifies everything that is thuggish with American society.
To Finnish, I don't condemn ritualized warfare sports, even if their popularity indicates a degeneration of the times, but I do feel that even madness has to have a method, and Rugby excels at its madness while American Football doesn’t, delivering a game that is both more agreeable to watch and where you want to throw your TV out-the-window a bit less. And the causes for that are indeed way more deep that I could possibly explore in a single article.
Thank you for reading, “confederate edge-lord” Rake out.
